In Automotive, students remove a door from a car.
For the first time in six years, Benson’s annual Tech Show is taking place at the original campus — and it’s shaping up to be one of the best ones ever. The 99th Tech Show in 2019 was the last one at the original Benson campus, before a global pandemic caused multiple Tech Shows to be canceled, and construction temporarily relocated the event to Marshall. But we’re finally back! Benson’s 102nd annual Tech Show is happening this Thursday and Friday, April 17th & 18th from 6-9pm, at the newly modernized Benson campus located at 546 NE 12th Ave. And it’s completely free for anyone to attend.
Tech Show is a display of everything Benson has to offer, with every major showing off their projects and state-of-the-art facilities. In Tech Skills, Automotive will teach about vehicle maintenance and showcase computer-controlled fuel management systems, while Electric will exhibit houses that students wired together themselves. Manufacturing will have projects that students made, such as bike frames, and Construction will show off their tiny house and will give away build-it-yourself kits.
In the Communication Design Academy, Computer Science will run software and video games coded by students. Video will play student-made films, and Photo will display and sell prints of shots they’ve captured. Digital design 10th graders will present a multimedia persuasive project. Throughout it all, Radio will be broadcast live on KBPS, offer station tours, and sell exclusive merchandise.
In Health Occupations, Medical Professions students will conduct vital sign checks and do fake blood draws. Pre-Nursing students will use an Electrocardiogram (EKG) to get heart rhythms. In the Dental Lab, students will do plaque checks to promote brushing teeth. Health Occ Sophomores are also displaying a skeleton model they built, with each student having made an individual bone.
Not just majors at Benson are participating in Tech Show, though! The Benson Robotics Club will sell ice cream with a student-built robot that puts on toppings, and Tech Enterprises will have Benson gear available for purchase at the student store. The Benson Alumni Association will also be there, unveiling their new alumni room featuring school memorabilia, including their collection of past yearbooks.
That’s just the tip of the Tech Show iceberg. If you’re interested in seeing this — and so much more — come on by to Benson’s 102nd Tech Show, this Thursday and Friday from 6-9pm at Benson Polytechnic High School!
